Transformers Fall Of Cybertron Autobots vs Decepticons

Transformers: Fall of Cybertron is a few weeks away but you can get a taste of it now by downloading and playing the demo that’s been released on Xbox Live and Playstation Network.

The demo lets you play two campaign missions and two multiplayer modes. For the campaign missions you’ll get to control either Bumblebee on the Autobot side or Vortex for the Decepticons. Both chapters have very different gameplay styles and give us a good idea of the variety of gameplay that the final game will have. The game is mostly a third person shooter but since you’re a Transformer, it’s not exactly typical. You can transform at any time with a simple click of the left analog stick and man does it feel good to change from a robot to a car or helicopter in an instant. Bumblebee turns into a car and Vector turns into a helicopter. Both control very smoothly in vehicle or robot form. The shooting is pretty spot on too. There is no actual cover system but you can hide behind objects in the environment and switch your shooting arm so you can shoot from different positions while behind cover. You can also use your weapons in vehicle mode which is pretty awesome.

Multiplayer was interesting. There is only one map to play on and only two modes to choose from, team deathmatch or conquest. Team deathmatch is exactly that, a team deathmatch. Conquest has you going to specific parts of the map and capturing nodes from the other team. The modes are standard multiplayer fare but since you’re a Transformer it feels more fun than it probably is. You can customize your robot but the demo has very limited options. There are four classes to choose from and each has a different role to play. My personal favorite was the Scientist class since you can transform into a jet and fly around the map. It’s not the greatest example of what an online experience should be but it’s enjoyable.

This demo was short but sweet. Fans of Transformers and third person shooters should definitely check it out.
