To quote the Governor “We have a lot to talk about”.
After weeks of anticipation, we finally get to see Rick and the Governor meet face to face. The two men were brought together by Andrea in the hopes that they can come to some sort of peace agreement. With all that’s gone on between the two groups, the meeting is tenuous at best.
The meeting itself was the centerpiece of the episode and it was fantastic. You could feel the tension in the room as the two men talked. Both sides lost a lot in their battles and no one wanted to give an inch. Even though Rick seemed to have finally comes to his senses it felt like the Governor had the more commanding presence. Rick seemed uncertain at times while the Governor kept his cool.
While the meeting was taking place some other interesting things happened. The members of Rick and the Governor’s group that showed up to the meeting actually got to know one another. Daryl hit it off with the Governor’s lieutenant even though the two men think that the meeting is a farce and that a battle is inevitable. Hershel got to spend some time with Milton and they got along too. Andrea was kind of the odd-woman out as she still felt torn about what group she should side with.

Not too much happened at the prison besides Merle wanting to go and kill the Governor as the meeting took place. As crazy as Merle is, I actually agreed with him on this one. Glen stepped up and kept Merle from leaving although he had to get roughed up a bit in the process. It was good to see Glen apologize to his girlfriend Maggie for being self-centered after they escaped from Woodbury. This was another step in Glen’s transformation into becoming a real man. There was also a nice sex scene between Maggie and Glen that made me appreciate the TV-MA rating the show now has.
When all was said and done, both parties went back to their homes unscathed. The Governor promises Rick that he will leave his group alone provided that he hands over Michonne. Michonne took the Govenor’s right eye and killed his zombie daughter so the man wants his revenge. Of course this is all bullshit and the Governor plans to kill Rick and his crew anyway. Rick prepares his people for war but he is actually considering handing over Michonne in order to end this. I know Rick hasn’t exactly had his head screwed on tight this season but the fact that he is even considering giving into the Governor is ridiculous. Thankfully he asks Hershel to talk him out of it. With the life of his daughters on the line, will Hershel actually WANT Rick to deny the Governor his prize?
This was another strong episode of The Walking Dead. Although it was a setup episode, the meeting between Rick and the Governor was very dramatic and well worth the wait. With both sides now gearing up for a full scale war; things have never been more intense.
