I just got word from an inside source at Gamestop that they have ceased taking orders on Xbox One consoles. I was told there was a secret 6 hour meeting held with Gamestop executives and apparently a decision was made to stop taking orders on Microsoft’s next gen console in some GS locations. Details are sketchy, but I was told that Sony also has a DRM setup with the PS4.
Gamestop is in desperation mode. As you know, their core business isn’t selling new games, it’s selling used games. With new DRM policies in existence, Gamestop’s profit margins will take a huge drop. Remember that they are still in business because of the used game market. Gamestop not selling Xbox One’s could hurt them more than it hurts Microsoft as there are more avenues (Best Buy, Target, Walmart, etc.) for them to sell their consoles.
We called an east coast Gamestop to verify this news and was told that we could order an Xbox One and Playstation 4 right now. I was also told that Playstation 4 pre-orders are leading Xbox One by 4:1. If I can get more info on this I will update you. For now, I wouldn’t worry about it unless you find you can’t order an Xbox One at Gamestop.
