This right here is easily my most anticipated game of 2013. This isn’t a surprise though. From Grand Theft Auto III onward, this series has been my absolute favorite. Any year that a GTA game drops is a good year as far as I’m concerned. If this ISN’T my favorite game of 2013, THAT will be a surprise.
We’ve only seen two trailers and some artwork but that’s more than enough to get anyone excited for Grand Theft Auto V. The game returns us to the city of Los Santos but like GTAIV did with Liberty City, Los Santos will be completely different than it was in GTA: San Andreas. Not only will the city be redone but the entire surrounding area will be as well. One of the cool things about GTA games is how the city itself is a character and this new Los Santos certainly has a lot of that.
Grand Theft Auto games always have an insane amount of things to do in them and GTAV is keeping that trend up. The game will have driving (duh), flying, swimming, golfing, arcade games and a bunch of other stuff we probably don’t even know about yet. Previous games had bank heists and this one will have more of them. The bank robberies will be a way to earn income of course and each of them should be more involved than in the past. There are a whole slew of vehicles to control as well. For me, I’m really hyped to see that military jets have made a return after being absent from GTAIV. Grand Theft Auto V will be a game that’s bursting at the seams with content.

One of the more interesting aspects of the game will be the fact that you can now play as three different protagonists. This is a first for the series so we’ll have to see how they juggle all of these different guys. Each character brings something different to the table and each of their abilities will be essential in pulling off some of the missions. Outside of missions you’ll be able to switch between the characters on the fly but supposedly during missions the game will change who you’re playing as depending on what’s happening. This whole three protagonists thing can potentially harm the game but I trust Rockstar will make it work.
Memorable characters are another hallmark of the series and from what we’ve seen so far, this game will have plenty of them. The main guys themselves are from different walks of life and will have their own point of view on things. As we’ve seen from the last trailer, they don’t exactly get along so I expect a lot of laughs when they all have to do missions together. The supporting cast seems just as interesting as the main characters too. Like I said before, Los Santos will itself be a character and the commentary heard over the radio will help give the city life. I can’t wait to hear the insane stuff that the radio commentators will say this time. GTA has always spoofed American culture and this game isn’t going to hold back the punches.
I could probably go on about Grand Theft Auto V longer but that’s going to do it for now. I see this as the biggest game of 2013 and I cannot wait to play it. I’ll no doubt spend my entire summer playing it so just keep that in mind when you don’t see me around as much as usual.
Grand Theft Auto V will be released on Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 in Spring 2013.
