As far as video games are concerned, 2012 is over. It’s time to look ahead, and all this week I’ll be posting my top five most anticipated games of 2013 in ascending order. We’ll start this off with my #5 pick: DmC.
DmC is kind of a no brainer for me. I love the series (except DMC2) and I love the developers. Ninja Theory brought us two standout games this gen (Heavenly Sword & Enslaved) and I expect them to do so again with DmC.
Unlike a few of the other games on my list, I’ve played a bit of DmC and so far it is as great as I was expecting. The art style is pure eye candy, the new Dante is cool (I said it!) and the controls are as tight as ever. One of the biggest complaints about the previous DMC games was that they were too difficult. DmC has a reasonable difficulty level on normal so people who don’t like to be punished for playing games can have fun. The higher difficulty settings should please the masochists out there however. It’s a win-win situation.
The plot of DMC games has been…confusing to say the least. Ninja Theory has mastered storytelling so I believe that this will be the best DmC in that department. I fully expect Ninja Theory to craft a story that makes sense. Dante will probably have some sort of character development and everyone around him will be fully fleshed out.
Ninja Theory’s games have always flown under the radar but DmC should finally put them in the spotlight. As great as the series was, it was in need of an overhaul and I’m glad that Capcom got NT to do it. This will most likely be one of the stand out hack n slash games of 2013.
Check back tomorrow when I talk about God Of War: Ascension.
